VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Conservation Advocate

MISSION: Preservation of the earth’s natural resources and sustainable use of the environment for the common good.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Participate with an activist leader in developing a campaign around a local issue by using the Sierra Club planning matrix. Help carry out the campaign by participating in those planned activities which fit with your interests and background. Revisit and revise the campaign plan as needed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Pick one or more that you like:

Writing: Designing campaign materials; Writing letters, email, postcards; Developing slogan buttons, T-shirts, ...; Letters-to-the-editor

Take the Message Out: Phone banking; Door-to-door canvassing; Neighborhood house parties or coffees; Leafleting and tabling at local events; Rallies, marches; Yard sign distribution

Speaking: Lobby days; Comments at public hearings; Bird-dogging; Press conferences; Radio and TV talk show appearances

QUALIFICATIONS: Interest and concern about the mission and willingness to give a little or a lot of time and energy.
