CANDIDATE FUNDRAISING EVENTS AND STAFF Any Rocky Mountain Chapter staff member is authorized to attend candidate or general political party fundraising events at his or her discretion, provided the following conditions have been met. 1. A budget line within the Political Committee's budget has been established for this kind of expenditures. No general funds may be used, nor may the budget amount be exceeded. 2. The candidate whose function is being attended may not have an active opponent who has been endorsed by the Sierra Club. However, the candidate need not be endorsed. For purposes of this rule, an endorsement is not considered final until all required Sierra Club entities have approved the endorsement. 3. The Executive Committee Chair and the Political Committee Chair must be notified in advance. Either leader may instruct the staff member not to attend if in his or her opinion there is significant reason to not support the candidate. In addition, the staff member will make a good faith effort to discuss the proposed attendance with potentially affected regional groups. 4. We recognize the rights of the staff member as an individual to support candidates of his or her own choosing at his or her own expense regardless of Sierra Club policy. This policy shall not abrogate those rights, and only covers functions and candidates for which Sierra Club money will be used and for which the staff member will attend in his or her official capacity.
