SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES
PUEBLO: The Sangre de Cristo Group of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Steve Nawrocki and Weston Burrer for the At-Large seats in the Pueblo City Council election. They were chosen by the Club primarily on the basis of their strong answers to twelve written questions on topics ranging from experience and expertise to recycling to water quality and more.
Both candidates are strong supporters of reducing Pueblo’s greenhouse gas emissions by improving public transportation; providing energy audits for all city buildings; establishing purchasing requirements for efficient government vehicles; and ensuring new city buildings will be energy efficient. Both support clean water and better monitoring in Fountain Creek, and they are both avid supporters of recycling and are willing to work with the County to encourage and support these services.
Steve Nawrocki has shown excellent leadership defending Fountain Creek, our most notorious endangered waterway in Pueblo. Weston Burrer, the current Vice-Chair of the Pueblo Historic Preservation Commission, fights to preserve historical buildings, which he believes is greenest form of building.
"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure both candidates are elected to City Council," concluded Ross Vincent, Chair of the Sangre de Cristo Group. "Sierra Club members in Pueblo will be encouraged to support Nawrocki and Burrer and to work with them to improve the City’s environmental performance once they are elected. We are excited by the prospect of having strong environmental leaders on the City Council.”
