Rocky Mountain Chapter - Colorado

Welcome

What follows are the standard role addresses used by the Rocky Mountain Chapter, its sections, and its groups, along with some discussion of why we use them.  With a few exceptions, you are not required to use any of these. Note though that people in other chapters will be trying to reach you by role accounts sometimes, so it is probably a good idea to use the same standards as everyone else.  These are not cast in concrete.

Suggested role addresses, based on RMC standards. You of course can set your own, but if every chapter sets the same standards, we'll be able to reach each other more easily and quickly.  Each of these addresses in our case is followed by rmc.sierraclub.org. You would of course use your own subdomain.

Addresses expected or required by various Internet RFC's for each subdomain

postmaster  - required by RFC2822 for any domain or subdomain hosting mail (that is you)

root - expected. Strongly encouraged.

abuse - RFC2142 requires this.  If someone complains that you are spamming them, do you want to get the complaint or do you want your upstream to get the complaint?  Note that one of the anti-spam blacklist maintainers considers a failure to have working postmaster and abuse addresses as a sign of incompetence, and will list a domain based solely on this perceived incompetence of the offending domain.

webmaster - expected, if you have a website.

Role addresses used by RMC currently. Note how we doubled up some where people were making common mistakes. For groups, we prefixed the officer role addresses with a group abbreviation, such as spg-chair@rmc.sierraclub.org for the South Platte Group chair

listmaster - used by us to manage our listserv lists.

# Officers (obvious. no further explanation required.  Group officers can be set up using an abberviation.  For instance, South Platte Group of the Rocky Mountain Chair would use spg-chair@rmc.sierraclub.org for its chair's address)

# Committee Chairs
